Shabbat Worship

Congregation Kol Ami places a special emphasis on our Shabbat worship. Rabbi Denise Eger and Rabbi Ross Levy lead services using the gender sensitive Mishkan Tefilah. Our services use both Hebrew and English in a highly accessible, liberal, service.  Kol Ami is a singing congregation. Our rabbis are often accompanied by guitar, piano, percussion and/or other instruments.

We offer upbeat, contemporary services, striving to create a spiritual experience that reflects the vibrancy of our community. We aim to make our services at Kol Ami feel contemporary, approachable, and welcoming to everyone in our community, whether they are new to Judaism, part of an interfaith family, or a long-time Kol Ami member.

Rabbi Eger and Rabbi Levy often connect their sermons to current events, and to issues faced by the Congregation, and the larger local and national Jewish community. Occasionally they also offer “Ask the Rabbi” sessions, allowing congregants to ask questions about the Torah reading, Jewish traditions, daily practice and observances. When the Torah is read, we often invite the congregation to the bimah (pulpit) to observe the reading of the scroll more closely.

We are proud participants in J-License.  We ethically pay for the royalties for use of the music during our worship services through our J-license and other licensing agencies.

Our Shabbat services are held at 6:30 PM on Friday evenings in person and you can find us online on FaceBook, YouTube and our website livestream.

We also offer a once monthly Shabbat morning worship experience called Shabbat Awakening! This experimental and interactive worship experience takes place on the first Saturday morning of each month at 10:00 AM.

Monthly, Rabbi Levy offers the Shabbat Holiness Hike at locations all around Los Angeles. These are easy hikes anyone can do, including our youngest and oldeest members.

We offer livestreaming of our Friday night Shabbat worship for those who wish to join us but cannot make it in person to our home here in West Hollywood. You can watch here on our website, or on Facebook live or our Kol Ami YouTube Channel
